Fall Leaf Haul

Let's Compost Those Leaves!

The Fall Leaf Haul, a leaf collection and composting program, occurs once a year on the first Saturday in December at two collection sites around the city. This year the Fall Leaf Haul is on Saturday, December 1, 2007, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program is being organized by the City of Salem, the Mid-Valley Garbage & Recycling Association, and Marion County Public Works Environmental Services to provide a means for Salem residents to compost their leaves and grass clippings. The program is designed for Salem residents only (no commercial landscapers, please).

Food or cash donations will be taken for the Marion-Polk Food Share. Cash donations also will be taken to support the Parks Tradition Fund. The garbage haulers are donating equipment and operators. The sites are being organized and staffed by Neighborhood Associations and service organization volunteers. The 2007 sites are:

State Fairgrounds
Lana Avenue NE Gate
Lana Avenue NE and Silverton Road NE

Sprague High School
2373 Kuebler Road S

Wallace Marine Park
West End of Glen Creek RoadNW

Seniors and disabled citizens can call the Salem Senior Center at 503-588-6303 for assistance in transporting bagged leaves to a collection site. November 14, 2007, will be the last day seniors and disabled citizens will be able to sign up for assistance. If you would like to volunteer a couple of hours to help at a site, please call 503-589-2195.
