Current Street Closures

With over 600 miles of roadways in Salem and more being added each year, applying seals is a cost-effective way of maintaining our roads. These seals will help protect the base of the street from water damage and renew the weathered surface with a new one. Seals help to extend the life of our streets and roads until funding for overlays and/or reconstruction can be made available. This is done by applying a Slurry, Cape, or Chip seal, depending upon the age and wear of the street.

The schedule for the preparation work runs from mid-May through mid-October. Please keep in mind that the preparation work may cause some inconveniences such as noise, dust, short-term parking restrictions, and temporary street closures. We will do what we can to reasonably reduce these impacts and complete the work as quickly as possible.

If necessary, we will leave a door hanger 72 hours prior to the preparation and we will place "No Parking" signs in advance of the crew's visit. There may be times that our preparation schedule is disrupted by inclement weather or other unforeseen events. If this happens, we will renotify you of our updated preparation schedule as soon as possible. If you plan to leave town for an extended period of time, please park off the street. It is necessary to have the streets clear of vehicles to avoid delays in our schedule.

To provide proper clearance for large equipment, Parks Operations will be pruning the trees hanging over the street that are not in accordance with the City's right-of-way clearance code (SRC Chapter 86).
