Description
The City’s Urban Development Department works with the Public Works Department to install and rehabilitate decorative streetscape in Salem’s downtown core through the Downtown Streetscape Improvement Program.
2006 Construction Activities The re-construction of the then existing streetscape required demolition of the tiled areas of sidewalk requiring temporary relocation of street furniture and planters. The re-construction work occurred on one half of the sidewalk at a time, allowing the other half to remain open for pedestrian and business access. Pedestrian access to business entries were maintained during business hours. Re-construction was phased in half-block non-contiguous areas with separation between areas of construction to minimize disruption.View slides of project .
