Description
The Salem Alliance Church purchased the Agency-owned North Downtown “Site C” at Broadway and Gaines Street NE. Salem Alliance Church’s redevelopment plans include a multi-story mixed-use development project with retail, office, church event space, and on-site parking.
The Church prepared the site for redevelopment, including removing several underground storage tanks and monitoring the site for possible environmental contamination, given its historic use as a gasoline service station and used car lot. As a result, in September 2006, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued a conditional letter of No Further Action, meaning that no additional investigation or cleanup is necessary at the site. This represents a major milestone for the project.

The 50,000 square foot, multi-story development concept includes including space for church needs, leasable space for commercial and office use, and a 400-seat multipurpose auditorium suitable for public events. The building will feature a large lobby intended to become a community gathering place complete with a coffee stand. The Church expects that construction could begin during 2008.
