​Zoning classifications in the Salem Revised Code determine how you can use and develop property. The land use process refers to the steps you take to have your building and land development plans reviewed and approved by the City. Your land use process may be a simple as filling out an application and having it reviewed by City staff. It may also involve public notice and hearings and reviews by the Salem Planning Commission or the City Council.

Applications for Short-term Rental Licenses in Salem Open July 12

On June 12, 2017, the City Council approved amendments to the Salem Revised Code making it easier to operate small-scale forms of short-term commercial lodging such as those found on home-sharing websites like Airbnb, FlipKey, and others. Residents interested in engaging in short-term, and accessory short-term rentals can apply for licenses on July 12, 2017.
