JULY 17 UPDATE: The City of Salem Rescinding Open Burning Ban Effective Wednesday at 12:00 pm PST, July 17, 2024.
With cooling temperatures, lighter winds, and higher humidity returning to the Willamette Valley, the City of Salem is rescinding the open burning ban effective 12:00 PM PST on July 17, 2024. All outdoor burning, ceremonial, and recreational fires will be allowed. City and Fire officials ask that the community continue to be alert and mindful of the dry conditions and to practice fire safety when burning outdoors.
JULY 16: Fire officials have issued a complete Burn Ban for the City of Salem, effective immediately and extending through Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. Conditions will be re-evaluated on Wednesday, July 17.
This burn ban is being issued due to the possibility of isolated thunderstorms where lightning and critically dry fuels may result in numerous fire starts. There is a 10% chance for wind gusts over 50 mph from the strongest storms this evening, creating favorable conditions for the rapid spread of fires, posing a threat to life and property.
Residents and visitors are strongly advised to exercise caution regarding potential ignition sources and to refrain from any types of outdoor burning until further notice.
