Traffic Team investigating fatal bicycle collision

Salem, Ore. — On Sunday, September 21, 2025, at approximately 7:59 p.m., patrol officers responded to a fatal traffic crash on Dr MLK Jr Parkway near Broadway Street NE.

The Salem Police Traffic Team was called in and is leading the investigation. Andrew Hillier, 45, of Salem, was riding a bicycle southbound on the sidewalk along MLK Parkway when he entered the roadway and was struck by a southbound vehicle driven by Jonathan Jimenez-Osorio, 19, of Independence. Jimenez-Osorio stopped, called 911 dispatch, and attempted to provide aid to Hillier. Hillier was pronounced deceased at the scene. Jimenez-Osorio remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. The investigation is ongoing.

This marks the seventh fatal traffic crash in Salem this year, resulting in seven fatalities.
