Board and Commission Applicants will Require Background Checks
Post Date:01/12/2026 8:30 AMApplicants for the Community Police Review Board and the Civil Service Commission must now undergo criminal background checks. Anyone convicted of a violent felony will not be allowed to serve on these boards.
The Community Police Review Board will also reserve one seat for someone who has personal experience as a victim of a felony crime.
Additionally, background checks are now required for all board and commission members, following the same process used for other City volunteers and employees.
The Salem City Council made these changes at a special meeting on January 7.
The Council also withdrew the reappointment of Kyle Hedquist, who was convicted of a violent felony, from the Community Police Review Board and the Civil Service Commission. This decision leaves open positions on both boards.Return to full list >>
