Excessive Heat Warning Across Willamette Valley

SALEM, Ore. - An Excessive Heat Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service from Noon Monday to 9:00 p.m. Thursday across the Central Willamette Valley. Temperatures are expected to reach as high as 102 degrees with humidity ranging from 20-60%. With temperatures expected to hit 100 degrees and humidity around 55%, the heat index for today will be roughly 124, right on the edge of extreme danger. Tuesday is expected to be even hotter with a heat index capable of reaching 130.

Please be cautious when spending time outdoors and limit your exposure. There are several cooling locations available throughout the city including the Salem Public Library (585 Liberty St SE), Center 50+ (2615 Portland Rd NE), as well as locations at ARCHES (615 Commercial St NE), UGM (777 Commercial St NE), HOAP (694 Church St NE), HYRC (625 Union St NE), and ROCC (2555 Silverton Rd NE).

During the extreme heat, Cherriots will be offering free rides to cooling centers.

Additionally, Salem's five neighborhood splash fountains are open from noon to 8 p.m. with Riverfront Park and River Road Park splash pads opening at 10 a.m. Drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen and please look out for one another. Other options to escape the heat are shopping centers, movie theaters and other public indoor facilities.
