Salem City Council approved new rates for the six members of the Mid-Valley Garbage and Recycling Association who serve the City of Salem. Rates will take effect January 1, 2023.

Haulers are adding a variety of features to help offset rate increases, including:

  • a 20-gallon every-other-week residential service
  • discounts for qualifying senior and disabled low-income residential customers of 20 percent

Rates for 35-Gallon cart service, the choice of most residential customers, will increase from $32.05 to $34.75 in Marion County (8.48%) and $26.30 to $29.05 in Polk County (10.54%). Read the staff report.

In addition to these rate and service options, City Council directed staff to work on a solid waste policy for City Council review that considers equitable service, the City's Climate Action Plan, the Oregon Recycling and Modernization Act, and service options of other cities and counties.
