Salem, Ore. — At approximately 4:00 a.m. Saturday, September 17, Salem Police patrol officers responded to the call of a single vehicle collision near the intersection of Hawthorne AV and Hyacinth ST NE. The vehicle was located off the roadway in a drainage ditch.

Officers found the driver, 34-year-old Hector Manuel Zepeda Briseno, still inside the vehicle, and he was pronounced deceased.

The area was closed for approximately four-and-a-half hours while the initial scene investigation was completed. The roadways were completely reopened by 8:45 a.m.

The Salem Police Traffic Team is leading this ongoing investigation and believe speed may have been a contributing factor in the collision. No further information is available at this time.
