Fireworks Show in Salem’s Riverfront Park Postponed Until Summer 2022; City Encourages Resident Safety

Salem, Ore. — The City of Salem will not be hosting a July 4th Celebration and fireworks display in Riverfront Park this summer.

Due to the uncertainty concerning the COVID-19 pandemic in late 2020, the City couldn't guarantee the traditional festivities would occur and decided not to enter into a contract with its fireworks vendor. The City of Salem hopes that all of its residents can safely participate in holiday celebrations this summer in a responsible manner while following current CDC, Oregon Health Authority guidelines, and all park rules. This includes wearing masks when needed, adequate social distancing, and holding events outdoors. Please remember that all city parks close at sunset and fireworks are always prohibited.

The City of Salem is looking forward to bringing back the event in 2022 and can't wait to see the community celebrate together again.

For more information on fireworks, visit the State Fire Marshall webpage for updated tips on firework safety and regulations, and always remember to:

  • Store fireworks out of children's reach

  • Keep pets safe indoors

  • Soak used fireworks in a bucket of water

  • Properly dispose of soaked fireworks in trash
