We have a winner! Thanks to all of you who took the time to vote to choose the 2020 Salem Reads book. We are thrilled to announce that the winning book is Piecing Me Together by
A limited number of copies are currently available from the library. A larger order has been placed and many, many copies will be available to check out soon. In addition, planning has begun for programs, discussions, and activities related to the book in February 2020.
Salem Reads: One Book, One Community is a community reads program presented by the Salem
Public Library Foundation that encourages a fondness for reading and the Library by inviting the entire city to read a common book.
Our goals for Salem Reads are to foster an inclusive cultural community, increase Library visibility, and attract a broader, more diverse population of Library users.
The criteria for choosing a book include engaging reading for those age 14 and up, diversity in the books' characters and subjects, themes that allow for a wide range of programs, and an important social issue that generates community wide discussion. We also need the book to be available in paperback, audio, electronic, and other formats.
Salem Reads will continue, even though the Main Library will be closed for seismic retrofit construction during February 2020. Watch for our event schedule in early December 2019 for details and locations of programs related to our Piecing Me Together by Renée Watson. During the month of February, join us for the Piecing Me Together book give away, films, art exhibit, book club meetings, speakers panel, community conversations, all for free at various venues around Salem.
