The wastewater discharge permit process helps the City maintain water quality by controlling what industrial businesses release into the City water system.[Salem Revised Code Chapter 74]
Apply for a new permit
Any business that wants to discharge industrial wastewater to the City’s water treatment processing must first get a wastewater discharge permit. The
initial application must be submitted to Environmental Services 90 days prior to discharge. Once your application is approved, you will be sent an invoice for the initial wastewater
permit fee.
Facilities that generate regulated wastewater but do not discharge the wastewater to the City’s system, must
apply for a zero wastewater discharge permit.
Renew your wastewater discharge permit
If your existing wastewater discharge permit needs to be renewed, fill out the
renewal application and submit to Environmental Services. Permit renewal applications must submitted no less than 90 days prior to the expiration of the user's existing permit. Upon review of the application, Environmental Services will determine the length of the permit renewal and you will be sent an invoice for the
wastewater permit renewal fee.
