City of Salem releases 2021 Stormwater Report

The City of Salem invites the public to review and comment on the City’s Annual Stormwater Report. The annual report provides an update on the status of stormwater-related activities completed during Fiscal Year 2020-21. Program activities include Clean Streams education and outreach, Watershed Protection and Preservation Grant, Street Sweeping, the Fall Leaf Haul event, summer stream cleaning, and water quality facility inspection and maintenance.

Also available for review and comment is the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Implementation Plan that features 22 measurable goals to help cool streams in the summer. This is the fifth reporting year of this 5-year plan and it includes information on the tasks conducted in Fiscal Year 2020-21 as well as provides a recap of actions taken during the 5-year span.

The public comment period is open for 14 days beginning on October 1, 2021, at 5 p.m., and closing on October 15, 2021, at 5 p.m. Comments will only be accepted in writing and may be submitted to us by email at [email protected] or by mail to Stormwater Services MS4 Comments, 1410 20th Street SE, Building 2, Salem, Oregon 97302.

All items in the reports are designed to help ensure that that our local water bodies meet the water quality standards for the designated beneficial uses. Beneficial uses in Oregon include recreation, aquatic habitat, fishing, and irrigation. The reports are required by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and are due to DEQ by November 1 each year.
