The City has converted the right hand vehicle lane on High Street and Church Street, between Ferry Street and Union Street NE, into a bicycle lane. Parking spots have been adjusted to allow room for the new bike lanes.

Please visit our Youtube channel for additional information about the goals of the project and how they will be achieved.

Project goal

Improve circulation, access, and safety for bicyclists traveling to, through, and within central Salem.

Current progress

The new lanes are dedicated bicycle lanes and shouldn't be used for normal vehicle travel. However, they may be entered to access parking.

This project was recommended in the Central Salem Mobility Study, adopted by City Council in 2013.

Funding is through Riverfront Downtown Urban Renewal Area funds and bicycle funds.
