Electronic Commerce Zone
Salem's Enterprise Zone is designated an Electronic Commerce Zone, a special status to further encourage electronic commerce (or e-commerce) investments. Businesses engaged in electronic commerce, those engaging predominately in transactions via the internet or an internet based platform, may be eligible to receive state income tax credit against the annual State of Oregon income or corporate excise tax liability.
Companies doing 51% or more of their business via the internet may qualify for up to a 25% income tax credit. The credit is equal to 25% of the firm’s capitalized investment within the Enterprise Zone boundary; up to $2 million in operations related to electronic commerce during a given tax year. The tax credit may be carried over for a five year period.
