Turn in your leaves for FREE!
Fall leaves are pretty, unless they’re clogging a storm drain and causing local flooding—then not so much.
Please don’t rake or blow your leaves into the street. It’s prohibited and can cause serious issues during heavy rain. Salem Revised Code requires that all residents remove leaves that fall naturally on their property and within the right-of-way behind the curb. The City of Salem is responsible for leaves that fall in the street.
So what should you do with the leaves? You can put them in your yard debris bin, compost them at home, or take them to the annual Fall Leaf Haul! You can drop off your leaves, grass clippings, and tree limbs at our drop off location on the designated days. Because this event is for residents only, we can’t accept leaves, grass clippings, or tree limbs from commercial landscapers.
Bagging leaves is not required. If you bag your leaves, please consider using paper leaf bags.
Assistance for senior and disabled residents
Senior citizens or those with disabilities in need of assistance hauling bagged leaves and grass to the collection site may call 503‑589‑2195 or email [email protected]. November 28, 2020, will be the last day to sign up for assistance.
We can always use more volunteers. If you’d like to donate a few hours of time and energy, please contact Cody Wildman at the Public Works Department.
