Task Force Recommends Revenue Options to Sustain Current City Services

November 30, 2018

On November 28, 2018, the City of Salem’s Sustainable Services Revenue Task Force recommended three possible new sources of revenue for City Council consideration. The Task Force recommendation included advice to consider phasing or timing one or more of the following revenue options: an operating fee, an employee-paid payroll tax, and a local gas tax. While a local gas tax is required to be submitted to voters, the Task Force also recommended the two other options be referred. A full report of the Task Force’s recommendation will be presented to the City Council in January 2019.

Proposed Wastewater, Water, and Stormwater Rate Increases

Salem City Council will hold a public hearing on October 8, 2018, for proposed rate changes to wastewater, water, and stormwater services for 2019 and 2020. Proposed rate changes will fund repair and replacement of aging infrastructure to meet growing and changing needs of the community and to comply with state and federal regulations.

City of Salem Budget Committee Meetings Begin April 25

April 19, 2018

On Wednesday, April 25, at 6 p.m. in City Council Chambers, the City of Salem Citizen Budget Committee will hold the first of three Budget Committee meetings. After receiving community input on the City’s estimates for revenue, the cost of services and capital projects, the budget committee will then develop a recommended budget for City Council to consider during a public hearing in June.

A public meeting of the Budget Committee of the City of Salem and the Urban Renewal Agency of the City of Salem, Marion/Polk County, State of Oregon, to discuss the budget for the fiscal year July l, 2017, to June 30, 2018, will be held at the Civic Center, City Council Chambers, Room 240, 555 Liberty Street SE, Salem, Oregon. The first meeting will take place on April 12, 2017, at 6:00 p.m.
