Genealogy Resources

Categories:

Start your family history project using the genealogy resources available at Salem Public Library at Broadway. The library hosts the Willamette Valley Genealogical Society (WVGS) and their collection to assist users in this type of research. WVGS volunteers are available to assist library users at no cost.

Join a Willamette Valley Genealogical Society meeting at the library on the second Saturday of each month at noon for a free program of interest to genealogists, such as a speaker, seminar, or workshop.

For an obituary look-up or specific research, contact WVGS by mail or email.

SPL Storytime Live Stream10:30 a.m.11:00 a.m.Virtual Meeting

We miss seeing you in the library, but we are still here for you online. To that end, families with toddlers and preschoolers are invited to join Youth Services staff for special LIVE storytimes online the first Saturday of each month. Early, literacy-rich storytimes are fun ways for families to help their babies, toddlers, and preschoolers get ready to learn to read when they start elementary school. Sign up to receive a Zoom meeting invitation and passcode at https://form.cityofsalem.net/s3/Storytime-Live-at-SPL.

Web Design with HTML Workshop for Teens4:00 p.m.6:00 p.m.Digital Meeting

Middle and high school students are invited to build coding skills as they create a website using HTML. Planned and led by experienced coders from the library’s Teen Advisory Board, this three-part workshop will teach skills useful for school now and your professional life later. The sessions will teach how to express yourself by coding your own website and help you understand the websites you use on a daily basis at a higher level.

Each day of the workshop builds on the other, so please sign up expecting to attend all three sessions. A small amount of “homework” will be expected between sessions. Space is limited. Sign up now at: http://bit.ly/SPL-webforteens

Registered students will receive Zoom access information the day before the first workshop session.
