Genealogy Resources

Categories:

Start your family history project using the genealogy resources available at Salem Public Library at Broadway. The library hosts the Willamette Valley Genealogical Society (WVGS) and their collection to assist users in this type of research. WVGS volunteers are available to assist library users at no cost.

Join a Willamette Valley Genealogical Society meeting at the library on the second Saturday of each month at noon for a free program of interest to genealogists, such as a speaker, seminar, or workshop.

For an obituary look-up or specific research, contact WVGS by mail or email.

Exploring Together: A Focus on Race and Racism6:00 p.m.7:00 p.m.Digital Meeting

Talking about race and racism is often uncomfortable, sometimes confusing, and almost always difficult. Salem Public Library invites you to get uncomfortable with us as we provide an opportunity for community members to do the important work of exploring race and racism in America. In this series of community conversations, staff will act as facilitators and work to establish a respectful and supportive space for everyone to contribute their thoughts, share questions, and explore the ideas from the readings and videos. Each of the three discussions will have its own focus: Session 1: Systemic Racism and White Privilege (July 28-DONE) Session 2: Race and the Criminal Justice System (August 25-DONE) Session 3: The History of Racism in America and Oregon (September 22) Sign up to get Exploring Together Zoom login information by email on the morning of the discussion. We ask that participants prepare by reading, listening to, or watching at least one of the recommended resource for the discussion, as listed at the top of the sign-up form.
