Are you a skater or skate park user? If so, please help shape a skate park for Geer Park! No matter what type of wheels you use, we invite you to take our survey to share priorities for skate park features by November 16, 2021.

The survey is the first of several opportunities to participate in a six-month-long skate park design process. In early 2022, we will be hosting virtual, public meetings, and another online survey to present design concepts and ask for additional feedback. The result will be a single design concept representing a vision for the future skate park.

In July 2021, the City of Salem completed an update to the Geer Park Master Plan, which envisions a skate park located on the north side of the park, near a new playground and the existing bike park. While the master plan update process did not provide a detailed design for the skate park, it identified the following objectives.

  • Approximately 20,000 square feet in size
  • Maximize the design within the estimated construction budget of $877,500
  • Incorporate features for all ages, abilities, and skill levels
  • Provide features that meet community desires and preferences
  • Design the skate park to limit negative environmental impacts and maintenance needs

A design process is being led by Evergreen Skateparks, a company that designs and constructs skate parks worldwide. The City will use the design to forecast the cost of the skate park, identify funding sources, and further plan out the project. The City may need to seek additional funding before constructing the skate park.

The skate park will be part of Phase 2 development of Geer Park, scheduled to start construction in spring 2024. Phase 1 development of Geer Park was completed in 2005.

Before beginning the skate park design process, we are asking for the community's feedback on desired features. Please spend a few minutes taking the survey and give us your opinions. The survey runs through November 16, 2021.
