​The Salem Historic Landmarks Commission is pleased to announce the winners of the Ben Maxwell Award, the Virginia Green Award, the new Cultural Landscape Award and the HLC Chair Award. Winners were announced at the June 17 Commission meeting. Photos of the winners and their projects will shared on the HLC's Facebook page.

The winners are:

Ben Maxwell Award for outstanding example of new construction in a historic district

Winners: Koz Development and Linda Nishioka for the new building at 260 State;  Salem Rotary and City of Salem Public Works for the Riverfront Ampitheater.

Virginia Green Award for exemplary service on behalf of historic preservation within the Salem Community:

Winner: Salem Culture and Heritage Forum (Yvonne Putz & Ross Sutherland) for providing leadership to Salem's heritage and cultural organizations.

Cultural Landscape Award for outstanding interpretation/preservation of a cultural landscape:

Winner: Mission Street Parks Conservancy for outstanding work on multiple projects within Bush's Pasture Park.

Chair Award for exceptional work in preservation

Winner: Kimberli Fitzgerald, Historic Preservation Program Manager City of Salem for managing Salem's historic preservation program since 2009, developing and updating Salem's Historic Preservation Plan, facilitating positive relationships with the tribes and creating Salem's archaeology program.
