Information Technology Department

The Information Technology Department provides the technical infrastructure and solutions that allow City of Salem staff to serve the community.

Divisions and functions

The City’s data and equipment resources are maintained by several functional groups within the Information Technology Department.

Network and technical services

Working cooperatively with all City departments and several regional entities, this team manages:

  • Personal computers
  • Network servers and network connectivity
  • Data security
  • Printing

An information technology Help Desk is staffed to help City staff with day-to-day operational issues.

Systems and programming

This team provides consultation, management, and support for on-going computer applications, custom applications, and enterprise systems that improve and enhance the citizen experience by streamlining processes through technology with programming, databases, websites, and much more.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Geographic information systems serve City staff, local and global businesses, and the community through mapping and spatial data. This team uses a hybrid approach to delivering GIS technology: The GIS hardware, software, data, and policy are centralized within IT while GIS staff are distributed throughout several departments.

Telecommunications

Keeping the phone lines open between you and City staff falls to the telecommunications staff. They manage and administer telecommunications infrastructure and its associated software, including PBXs, VoIP, Auto-Attendant, voice mail, interactive voice response, and other telephony or network applications.

Document services

This team provides desktop publishing, bindery, copying, mail, and messenger services Citywide. Citywide copier assets are also managed through this group.
