Minimum requirements
To apply for a lateral police officer position, you must meet one of these requirements:

Possess a valid police officer basic certificate

Be eligible for recertification from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training

Possess an equivalent certification and at least three years recent experience as a municipal, county, or state police officer. (Corrections, parole, and probation or military police do not fulfill this requirement. Some federal law enforcement positions may fulfill the requirement on a case-by-case basis.)
These requirements also apply:
- High school graduate, or possess a GED certificate
- Written examination
- Oral interview
- Possess good communication skills
- Excellent moral character
- Valid driver license
- Willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- Minimum reading and writing skills at a 12th-grade level Pay negotiable based on years of experience, skills, and abilities
- Potential for vacation and sick time to be awarded at time of hire
- Able to become a US citizen within 18 months of hire
