Library Events for Adults

Most Salem Public Library adult events and activities are free. Some programs require pre-registration or a ticket, so be sure to check this page or the calendar for the specific event.

Book discussion groups

Salem Public Library hosts three book discussion groups,organized and led by Library staff. The Salem Public Library Foundation and the Friends of the Salem Public Library sponsor the purchase of book kits for the discussion groups. Discussion books are available for checkout at the Ask Here Desk at the main Library. Book discussion groups are free and open to the public.

Current discussion groups:

  • Books for Lunch: Meets the third Wednesday of each month at 12:00 p.m. in Anderson Room A on Floor One.

  • Books for Dessert: Meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in Anderson Room A on Floor One.

Book kits

Book kits​ are available for check-out and used by area book groups.

Music at the Library

The Music at the Library series offers a variety of musical genres throughout the year. Admission is free to all shows on a first-come, first-seated basis​. The Salem Public Library Foundation sponsors this program.​​​​​

Community organizations​

Salem Public Library cooperates with a number of community organizations to co-sponsor regular monthly and weekly meetings at Library locations. Group organizers schedule and run meetings; details are noted in the calendar entry. All Library-sponsored groups are free and open to the public.
