An Open House for the newly opened Salem Public Library at Broadway is planned from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, March 14 at SPL at Broadway, 1400 Broadway St. NE. Take the March into Non-Fiction Reading Challenge!

Do you have what it takes to complete the March into Nonfiction Reading Challenge? Readers and listeners (ages 0 - 18) are invited to read books from a variety of non-fiction categories in March, and earn a free book to keep in April. No registration is necessary. Simply print out a copy of the March into Non-Fiction reading log, find a few good non-fiction titles, and begin reading!

Library: New Location, New Hours

Salem Public Library at Broadway, 1400 Broadway St NE, opens Tuesday, February 18. Located on the corner of Broadway and Hood, SPL at Broadway offers books, music, DVDs, and public computer access for children, teens, and adults. The building is equipped with a book drop, free wifi, a 61-space parking lot, and a bicycle rack.

Best Books of 2019 list now available

Meet Salem Public Library’s Best Books 2019 – an annual list that celebrates books of interest to adult readers, as nominated by library patrons and staff combined with picks from critics and the publishing world. The list includes 104 highly appealing fiction and nonfiction picks, cluing in readers to top and indie picks they might have missed. Copies are available to view or print online or to pick up at a Salem Public Library location.

Our Books and More are Still Here for You

The temporary Salem Public Library located at 1400 Broadway NE (at the corner of Broadway and Hood), will open on February 18, 2020 and serve in place of the Main Library during a planned 18-month renovation. Salem Public Library at Broadway will be smaller than the Main Library. However, the space still lets us offer materials and public computer access for everyone! Throughout, you will continue to have uninterrupted access to our extensive online collection of ebooks, eaudiobooks, and research resources, available 24/7 at www.salemlibrary.org.

Picking-up Holds While Salem Public Library is on the Move

If you regularly pick up your holds at the Main Library, 585 Liberty St. SE, your hold location will automatically switch to the West Salem Branch, 385 Glen Creek Rd. NW., from Feburary 2-18 while the Main Library moves to a temporary facility. You can also customize your hold pick up locations with a few easy steps.

Snuggle Up Winter Reading Club sign up is open!

It’s cold outside, which means it’s a great time for children, teens, and families to snuggle up with some great books and earn a new book by keeping track of your daily reading in February. Print out a reading calendar or pick up a copy at Floor 3 Children’s Ask Here Desk or the West Salem Branch Ask Here Desk. Mark off or color in each day you read or listen to books, and bring your completed reading calendar to the Salem Library at Broadway or West Salem branch in March to claim a free book for your home library.

Featured Database: National Geographic for Kids

Library Preps for "Glamping" at Broadway Temporary Site

City of Salem agreed to lease property in the 1400 block of Broadway to serve as a temporary Salem Library location while the Main Library is being renovated over the next two years. The site is much smaller, so services will be scaled back and more focus will be placed on outreach.

The schedule is now open for talented middle and high school-aged youth to audition for the Night of 1,000 Stars: Teen Talent Showcase.
