Salem Breaks Ground on New Facility That Turns Wastewater into Renewable Energy. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at the Willow Lake Wastewater Treatment Facility in Keizer, Oregon. Please join Salem Mayor Chuck Bennett, Keizer Mayor Cathy Clark, and representatives from Energy Trust and Portland General Electric in the launching this first step on a facility upgrade that will produce 1200 kW of electricity from municipal wastewater. This upgrade will help to keep 5,000 metric tons of pollution causing gases from our atmosphere and is expected to save the City of Salem $300,000 in energy costs each year.

Kids and Families are Encouraged to Snuggle up and Read this February

January 3, 2019

Kids of all ages and their grown-ups are encouraged to read for at least 15 minutes each day during the month of February. Mark off or color in each day you read as a family or individually during the month of February, and bring your completed reading calendar to the Youth Services Ask Here desk in March to claim a free book for each participating child.
