Social Participation in an Age-Friendly Community—Forum and Discussion on January 17

January 11, 2018

On January 17, from 2–5 p.m. at Center 50+, the City will host a panel discussion and community resource fair on Social Participation for Salem’s older adults. This will be the second in a series of meetings discussing livability in Salem. Residents are encouraged to attend and participate. A free spaghetti dinner is offered for all participants.

Emergency Warming Center Activated December 20–December 26; Volunteers Needed

December 26, 2017

The Community Action Agency (CAA) is opening an emergency warming center for guests at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20. It will be located at the First Presbyterian Church, 770 Chemeketa St. NE. The emergency warming center will be active through December 26 and will be extended as needed.

Beloved Salem Police Service Dogs to Retire

Salem Police have officially retired two of their K-9 officers from police work. The departure of two dogs will be felt greatly. Baco and Jake enjoyed opportunities to do demonstrations with the public, and were well known in the community.
