City of Salem Budget Committee Meetings Begin April 25

April 19, 2018

On Wednesday, April 25, at 6 p.m. in City Council Chambers, the City of Salem Citizen Budget Committee will hold the first of three Budget Committee meetings. After receiving community input on the City’s estimates for revenue, the cost of services and capital projects, the budget committee will then develop a recommended budget for City Council to consider during a public hearing in June.

Local Law Enforcement Agencies to Host Drug Take Back Sites

April 19, 2018

Salem and Keizer’s law enforcement agencies are partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for the twice-a-year Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at various locations in the Salem-Keizer area.

Apply Now: $80,000 Available to Salem Property Owners for Site Reuse and Revitalization

April 13, 2018

The City of Salem has $80,000 available to assist local property owners with environmental cleanup as they revitalize sites throughout the city. The funds are available through a grant from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and can be used for environmental assessment and reuse planning. This grant program provides one more “tool” to assist Salem property owners with site reuse and redevelopment. These funds are available until Sept. 2018.

Portland Road NE Speed Limit Temporarily Reduced to 30 MPH

April 12, 2018

On Monday Apr. 16, 2018, the speed limit on Portland Road NE between Carleton Way NE and Hyacinth Street NE will be temporarily reduced to 30 MPH to accommodate the construction of street improvements. This speed reduction is part of a larger Northeast Salem project to increase safety and encourage private development along Portland Road. Once construction is complete, Salem residents, businesses, and visitors will experience new sidewalks, mid-block pedestrian crossings, and upgraded transit stops.

Salem Joins Nationwide Challenge to be Most “Water Wise” City!

Salem Mayor Chuck Bennett has joined mayors across the country in asking residents to make a long-term commitment to manage water resources more wisely by taking part in the annual Wyland National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation.

12th Street SE Southbound Widening Project to Impact Traffic

April 11, 2018

Utility relocation work has begun on southbound 12th Street SE from Hoyt Street SE to Fairview Avenue SE as part of the 12th Street SE Southbound Widening Project. This is the first phase of a project that will widen the current roadway to accommodate a southbound right turn lane to Fairview Drive SE.

Salem Housing Authority Awarded $50,000 Grant from Salem Health for Homeless Peer Supportive Services

April 9, 2018

The grant supports the Homeless Rental Assistance Program (HRAP) by funding peer supportive services for chronically homeless clients who have been housed or are awaiting housing placement.
