The Great Screen-Free Challenge

December 1, 2018

Kids who take the screen-free pledge to go screen-free for 7 days (and keep it) will be treated to the Kids’ Late Night Party: Harry Potter Edition, the Sequel, a fun-filled evening of crafts, activities, and treats from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, January 25 on Floors 2 and 3 at Salem Public Library.

Task Force Recommends Revenue Options to Sustain Current City Services

November 30, 2018

On November 28, 2018, the City of Salem’s Sustainable Services Revenue Task Force recommended three possible new sources of revenue for City Council consideration. The Task Force recommendation included advice to consider phasing or timing one or more of the following revenue options: an operating fee, an employee-paid payroll tax, and a local gas tax. While a local gas tax is required to be submitted to voters, the Task Force also recommended the two other options be referred. A full report of the Task Force’s recommendation will be presented to the City Council in January 2019.
