Snow Expected Tuesday Evening; City Encourages Motorists to Exercise Caution

Weather forecasts predict 2ʺ to 5ʺ of snowfall in Salem and the surrounding Willamette Valley this evening. Current snowfall is expected to increase in intensity around 3 p.m. today. City of Salem Public Works staff are working extended shifts for the duration of the snow event and have been applying additional deicer to keep our roadways as clear as possible. Please use extra caution and allow for additional travel time during the late afternoon and evening commute.

Emergency Warming Shelter Open 8 p.m., February 12 through 6:30 a.m., February 13

Tonight, February 12, at 8 p.m., the Community Action Agency is opening an emergency warming center. The shelter will be open until tomorrow morning at 6:30 a.m. The warming shelter will be located at the First Christian Church, 685 Marion St NE.

Salem Residents Remain Optimistic About Salem’s Future

According to the 2017 annual Residential Satisfaction Survey, nearly two-thirds of Salem’s residents think the City of Salem is heading in the right direction, and nine-in-ten residents are satisfied with city services.

Second Downtown Streetscape Open House on February 13

February 2, 2018

The second Downtown Salem Streetscape Design Plan Open House is on Tues., Feb. 13, 5:30 – 7 p.m. at the Senator Hearing Room/Courthouse Square, 555 Court St. NE. Attendees will view, discuss, and provide feedback on early concepts for improving Salem’s downtown experience. The concepts were developed from community input.
