Parking Meter Install

New parking technology is being installed throughout Salem that allows parking payments to be made credit and debit cards, as well as coins. The new stations also allow more flexible time options.

Phases I and II of the project have been completed, with new pay stations and meters installed in the Capitol Mall area and Salem Municipal Airport.  Phase III will begin in late May, 2018 for installations south of State Street.

Areas south of State Street, including Willamette University, some of the Salem Hospital, Salem City Hall, and South Block Apartments will soon receive new parking technology. Site preparation work will begin in late May 2018. Following the site preparation, the new parking pay stations will be installed. It is estimated that all of the new Phase III parking stations will be operational by late June 2018. Phase III also includes modifying some of the existing on-street parking time restrictions to create more consistency and eliminate confusion for those parking within the project area.

In July 2016, the remainder of Capitol Mall area parking meters were replaced. Also, as part of this project, a new Pay-by-Plate parking station was installed at the Salem Municipal Airport. Unlike the pay stations at Capitol Mall, where patrons pay at the machine and then place a receipt on their vehicle dash, those using the Pay-by-Plate system at the Airport enter their license plate when they pay and are not required to display parking receipts in their vehicles.

In October 2015, the project kicked off with the replacement of meters in the core area of Capitol Mall.
