Renovations at Salem Public Library extend beyond the library walls and include an update to how parking is handled for visitors to the building.
Visitors now have three hours of free parking each day in the library lot at the Main Library. Additional time is .75 cents/hour from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Parking is free after 6 p.m. and all day Sundays.
Here are a few changes that visitors should plan for:
Traffic is one-way through the renovated parking garage, with entry only from Liberty Street and exit only onto Leslie Street.
Handicapped parking, electric vehicle parking, and a limited number of general spaces are also available in a surface lot next to Loucks Auditorium. This lot is also accessed from Liberty Street.
Parking meters have been replaced with two kiosks (one just outside the parking garage; one at the corner near the surface lot). All visitors will need to visit the kiosk and enter their license plate number.
A receipt will be printed that visitors can take with them as a reminder.
Payment, if needed, can be made by credit card or cash (nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollar coins only).
Doors open at the renovated Main Library, 585 Liberty St. SE, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 1.
