Portland Road Corridor Action Plan

From November 2014 - March 2016, the Portland Road Corridor Action Plan was completed to identify ways to improve economic conditions and opportunities in the Portland Road area of the North Gateway Urban Renewal Area (URA).

 ​Several projects are underway
  • Community Food Study
    Exploring ways to grow small business, increase access to fresh food & support neighborhood vitality.
  • Streetscape Improvements + Safe Pedestrian Crossing
    Urban Development and Public Works staff are beginning the initial phase of the project by seeking input from residents and businesses about the need for mid-block crossings along Portland Road. The initial focus for the analysis is the segment between Lana Street and Bill Frey Drive.
  • Grant Program for Commercial/Industrial Property Owners and Tenants
    Salem has created a building rehabilitation/restoration commercial loan program to encourage business and property owners in the North Gateway URA to improve their store fronts and properties, and contribute to the area’s revitalization.
