What is the Salem Public Library Strategic Plan?
In December 2020, the City of Salem sought proposals for a comprehensive strategic planning process to guide the Salem Public Library operations for the next five years in support of the Library's
mission and core values. The Portland-based
Coraggio Group was selected to develop the Library Strategic Plan through a comprehensive planning process to include a situation assessment and review of best practices.
The strategic plan will consider:
- equitable access to the Library building,
- services beyond the building to reach more of Salem,
- the purpose of the collection and collection development policy, and
- the context of community need and organizational capacity at the Library and within the City organization.
The strategic plan will be easily adaptable and nimble enough to be reviewed often: where progress on goals and objectives are tracked and measured annually, and where all budget and service decisions are traced to the goals of the strategic plan.
Schedule. Steering Committee and community engagement work is currently ongoing. The timeline is in three primary phases of information gathering, clarity and process, then by 2022 implementation of the new plan begins.
