Share Your Thoughts About Increasing Salem’s Tree Canopy

Are you a Salem property owner? If so, please take our survey to share your thoughts and ideas about barriers and incentives to planting more trees.

We are working to increase Salem’s tree canopy.  Information collected from this survey will help guide our tree-planting programs as part of Salem’s Community Forestry Plan

During the first phase of the survey, we reached out to a group of randomly selected people who live in areas with low tree canopy. Now, the survey is available to the general public through Friday, October 22, 2021.

Under the Community Forestry Plan, Salem saw an increase in tree canopy from 18 percent in 2009 to 24 percent in 2019, which exceeded our initial tree canopy goal of 23 percent. We have now set a new goal to reach 28 percent by 2030. To reach this new goal, we need private property owners to plant more trees to increase our tree canopy.

While we continue to plant trees in parks and along streets and streams, we still need property owners to help us grow the canopy in their neighborhoods. Please take a moment to take this short survey and let us know your thoughts
