The Great Screen-Free Challenge

Each year, increasing numbers of Salem children have made and kept the pledge to turn off their screens for 7 days. Is this a good thing? Yes!! Television, movies, and other screen entertainment have become a big part of our lives. Children and families find that unplugging for a week is a great opportunity to re-discover hands-on activities and social interactions. Youth Services staff can provide some great ideas for how to spend the time–starting with recommending some great books.

Kids who have kept their pledges to go screen-free for 7 days will be treated to the Kids' Late Night Party: Harry Potter Edition, the Sequel, a fun-filled evening of crafts, activities, and treats from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, January 25 on Floors 2 and 3 at Salem Public Library. Successful pledgers should let Youth Services know whether or not they plan to attend the party no later than January 22.
