Update on Shots Fired at Salem Police Officer

​Jaime Lee Jimenez, age 38 of Woodburn, was arrested at 8:40 a.m. today in connection with the shooting of a Salem Police officer during a traffic stop last evening.

Early in the morning of May 15, Salem Police SWAT surrounded an apartment in the 2600 block of Broadway ST NE where investigators believed Jimenez was hiding. After nearly an hour, negotiators were able to convince Jimenez to surrender peacefully.

Jimenez has been booked into the Marion County Correctional Facility on multiple charges including Attempted Aggravated Murder with a Firearm, Assault II with a Firearm, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Also in the apartment was Amanda Cayetano, age 35 of Salem, who was arrested on the charge of Hindering Prosecution in connection with the incident.

The officer’s name will be released after she has notified her family members.

Further information on this incident will be coordinated by the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.
