Important Update: New Cultural Rules in Effect January 2027
New Cultural Rules related to local jurisdiction requirements for protecting archaeological resources and cultural landscapes take effect January 1, 2027. Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development has posted updated guidance. City of Salem is already in substantial compliance with these rules, however there will be a few changes to our processes in 2026. If you have questions about how these changes may impact your project, please contact the City Archaeologist.
