Discovery Room

children at play in the Discovery Room

Children can learn through play in the Salem Public Library's Discovery Room. Since 1986, the Discovery Room has been a fun and creative space for children and their adult caregivers to explore and learn together.

Discovery Room Hours:

  • Tuesday to Thursday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Friday to Sunday: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tiny Tots Spaces

Because many families enjoy the Discovery Room, we have toys for infants and toddlers in Story Room B. This room is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday through Sunday. Children and their grownups can spend time there together.

Families with infants and toddlers can also find more toys and cozy reading spots in the inner circle of the picture book area. This area is open whenever the library is open.

Group Visits

The Youth Services staff offers storytime and Discovery Room visits for groups of 15 or more children and their caregivers. They also provide library tours for groups of 8 to 15 children and their caregivers on Thursdays and Fridays during the school year. If your group has more than 20 children, we may need to split it into smaller groups to fit in the Discovery Room. We look forward to seeing you at the library!
