Outreach Services for Youth and Families
The Salem Public Library supports the educational, recreational, and literacy needs of youth at every stage of development. Youth Services staff provide a variety of programs and services for parents, caregivers, educators, and youth. These activities can take place at the library or as outreach events. Group Visits to the Library
Youth Services staff will arrange to provide a library tour along with possible storytime, Discovery Room visit, and scavenger hunt for groups of children or teens during the school year.

Early Literacy Outreach
Youth Services staff are available by appointment to provide storytimes and early literacy teaching at Head Start programs, day cares, and other institutions serving a minimum of 15 children ages 0-5.

Pop-up Library Program or Outreach
Library staff provides pop-up library services to classrooms, organizations, and community events upon request based on staff availability. Services may include:
- Fun and engaging library introduction
- Book checkout
- Library cards for students
- Storytime
- Instruction on using eBook and eResources
- Literacy or STEAM Programs and activities

R.E.A.D. While You Wait Tiny Library Delivery
Salem Public Library's R.E.A.D. While You Wait Literacy Outreach provides totes of books to organizations serving families with children and teens in underserved communities in Salem, Oregon. Each tote serves as a "mini library branch" that includes a small collection of un-cataloged books for children and teens from Salem Public Library, along with information about library services.
Totes are available to participating organizations in the City of Salem. This program is funded by the Oregon Ready to Read Grant, Salem Rotary Club, and Salem Library Foundation. Items in these tiny libraries do not need to be returned, and may be replenished when needed.

R.E.A.D. Book Bundle Delivery
The R.E.A.D. Book Bundle program provides deliveries of 30-50 books to classrooms, non-profits, and organizations serving children, teens, and families.
Items are checked out from the library’s grant-funded outreach collection. The checkout period is agreed upon before delivery and lasts six to eight weeks. Each delivery includes library card application packets and information for families.
This program is partially funded by the Assistance League of Salem-Keizer.

Outreach Library Cards
Outreach Library Cards are available to agencies, schools, non-profits, and organizations within Salem city limits or the Salem-Keizer School District. Outreach Library Cards allow users to work with Salem Public Library staff to access books from the library’s grant-funded outreach collection. R.E.A.D. School Outreach
In partnership with the Assistance League of Salem-Keizer, the library offers R.E.A.D. Outreach visits to 1st grade classes and 1/2 blends in the Salem-Keizer School District during the school year. Visits are subject to staff and volunteer availability. Teachers may request:
