Beaver dams and ponds provide many important benefits for fish and wildlife:

Wetlands and riparian areas influenced by beaver activity are often more resistant to wildfires and drought. Beaver activity slows down streamflow, raises the water table, and spreads surface water across the floodplain. This irrigation helps keep valley floors green and thriving, even during droughts. The healthy vegetation and saturated soils around beaver ponds and wetlands slow the spread of wildfires and provide refuge for animals escaping the flames.
