Home MenuReport a Noise Issue
If you are disturbed by noise from barking dogs or loud sounds, like music from a party or a neighbor's television, you can report it through the non-emergency line at the Salem Police. Call 503-588-6123 to make your report.
City Response
The police will no longer come to your location for these types of calls. Instead, a Salem Police representative will contact you to confirm the address of the noise complaint and gather more details about the issue. They will ask about the type of noise and how long it lasts to document your complaint.
This documentation will help the City decide if any further action is needed, especially for places with repeated noise complaints.
Repeated Noise Issues
For properties with multiple complaints, the police will follow up. A Salem Police representative will review the complaints and decide on any additional actions that may be necessary.
Other Options
Talk to Your Neighbor
You can also talk to your neighbor about the noise. Politely explain how the sound is affecting you, such as:
- The volume of the noise
- The late hour it occurs
- How often it happens
Mediation
If talking to your neighbor does not work, you can seek help from trained mediators. They can assist in having a constructive conversation about neighborhood disputes.

Be a Good Neighbor
If you are planning a large gathering, think about how it might affect your neighbors. Here are some tips:
- Let your neighbors know in advance about your plans.
- Share details such as:
- The number of guests you expect
- How late the party will go
- Your phone number, so they can contact you if it gets too noisy or if a guest's car is blocking their driveway.
