Get Community Alerts
Salem’s Emergency Community Notification System is now part of Marion Polk Alerts. We've combined the resources of the City of Salem, Marion and Polk counties, the National Weather Service, and the State of Oregon to create an alert system that will serve Salem and the Mid-Willamette Valley.
Why It’s Important
This update is important because it ensures that residents receive timely and accurate information during emergencies. Whether it’s a natural disaster, a hazardous materials release, or police activity, the new system helps keep you and your loved ones safe. By joining Marion Polk Alerts, Salem is improving its ability to notify the community quickly and effectively.
How to Sign Up
You can sign up to receive critical, time-sensitive emergency alerts for up to five addresses. These could include your home, workplace, or your child’s school. Signing up ensures you stay informed about emergencies that may affect the places most important to you.
You can also register for weather alerts and choose to turn them off during times that are inconvenient for you.
Choose How You Receive Alerts
The alert system allows you to pick the communication method that works best for you. You can choose to:
- Receive a phone call
- Get an email message
- Receive a text message
The system will continue trying to contact you until you confirm that you have received the alert or until the emergency is over. It will also notify you when the situation has been resolved.
Once you register, you can customize your preferences. This includes selecting your preferred language, choosing how you want to receive alerts (such as text messages, emails, voice calls, mobile app, and TDD/TTY), and setting times when you do not want to be disturbed.
Types of Alerts You Can Receive
Marion Polk Alerts will notify you about a variety of safety situations, including:
- Evacuations
- Flooding
- Hazardous materials releases
- Police activity that requires action from residents
These alerts are managed by Marion and Polk counties in partnership with the City of Salem’s emergency personnel.
