Requesting Police Records
The primary method for requesting police records is the City of Salem Public Records portal. If you do not have an email address, you may submit your request in person or by fax to the Salem Police Department at the following address or fax number. Please note that all requests must be submitted in writing to ensure proper processing.

All requests are processed in the order in which they are received. Upon receipt of your request, please allow a minimum of 7-10 business days for processing.
Types of Records Available
Police reports
You may obtain a copy of a police report if the investigation and prosecution have been completed. If you do not have a case number, the Community Crime Map may be able to assist you. Visit the site to search for the incident using the date and location. Clicking the icon for the incident provides you with the report number.
Name search
You can request a list of Salem Police citation and incident reports involving a specific individual. This list will include the person’s name, incident type, date of occurrence, incident number, and their involvement (e.g., victim, complainant, or arrested).
Address search
You may obtain a list of Salem Police citation and incident reports associated with a particular address. This list will include the incident type, date of occurrence and incident number.
Photographs
Copies of photographs related to a police report may be obtained if the photos are releasable.
Records check letter or visa letter
You can request a letter indicating whether you have a criminal record in Salem. This letter may be used for employment or travel visa applications. To obtain this letter, please submit a written request along with a copy of your photo identification.
