Free Smoke Alarms and Bike Helmets
Free Safety Equipment from the Salem Fire Department
You may be able to get free safety equipment through programs offered by the Salem Fire Department. These programs are designed to help families that may not be able to afford safety equipment on their own.
Who Can Apply?
To qualify for free safety equipment, you must live within the city of Salem or the Salem Suburban Rural Fire Protection District.
Smoke Alarm Program
The goal of the Smoke Alarm Program is to provide every household with a working smoke alarm. Studies show that having a working smoke alarm increases your chances of surviving a house fire by 50%.
Bicycle Helmet Program
The Bicycle Helmet Program gives free bicycle helmets to children whose families cannot afford them. This program is funded entirely by donations from local citizen organizations.
