The Gerry Frank | Salem Rotary Amphitheater is located in Riverfront Park, the premier outdoor event space in downtown Salem. Completed in 2021, the amphitheater was a collaborative project between the City of Salem and the Rotary Club of Salem. It has a seating capacity of 3,000 to 5,000 people and includes a covered stage, a contoured lawn spanning one acre, and a vendor plaza equipped with power and water for up to 14 vendors.
The Gerry Frank | Salem Rotary Amphitheater is more than just a venue—it is a community asset. Located in Salem’s 23-acre Riverfront Park, the amphitheater enhances the park’s existing attractions, which include a carousel, splash fountain, playground, pavilion, river access, the A.C. Gilbert House and Children’s Museum, and walking bridges to neighboring parks. By providing a space for concerts, cultural events, and community gatherings, the amphitheater strengthens Salem’s identity as a hub for recreation and entertainment. It offers residents and visitors a place to connect, celebrate, and enjoy the beauty of the Willamette Riverfront.
A Community Legacy
To celebrate its 100th anniversary, the Rotary Club of Salem spearheaded the effort to build this multi-purpose amphitheater. Opened in 2021, the project is the third major contribution by the Rotary Club to Riverfront Park, following the Rotary Pavilion and the Rotary Children’s Playground. The amphitheater has quickly become an iconic landmark, solidifying Riverfront Park’s reputation as one of Oregon’s premier destinations for fun and entertainment.
Design and Cultural Inspiration
The amphitheater’s design reflects the cultural heritage of the Kalapuya Native American tribe, who once lived in the area. The structure’s “basket weave” design, created by CB|Two Architects is inspired by the open-weave baskets of the Kalapuya people. This design honors the history and culture of the land while looking toward the future. The sweeping wood structure complements the nearby Peter Courtney Minto Island Bridge and enhances the modern-day activities of Riverfront Park.
