Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Parking Information
If customers have a disabled parking permit from Oregon or any other state, they have special parking privileges outlined in Oregon Revised Statue 811.635. However, they are not exempt from parking fees and time limitations in Salem. Customers can get information about getting a disabled parking permit from the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) website.
Enforcement
Officers do not enforce Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) parking on private property, such as a grocery stores, apartments and commercial buildings. The Salem Police Department has volunteer police who enforce ADA parking regulations on private property.
Officers will warn vehicles for first offense followed by a citation on the second offense in both metered and time parking.
Parking Placards
Standard or Temporary Placard
If a customer has a standard or temporary issued disabled parking placard, they are required to follow all application parking regulations (Salem Revised Code 102.085)
Wheelchair User and Wounded Warrior Placard
If they have a wheelchair user or wounded warrior user permit from Oregon or another state, they may park for free at any meter or time restricted zone except for the 30 minutes or less and LZ spaces.
