The Solid Waste Committee may provide advice and provide recommendations to the City Council as a whole or to the City Manager on the following matters:

1. Solid waste policies.
2. Solid waste service options and rates.
3. Franchising and regulation of solid waste service providers.
4. Any other matters concerning solid waste management. 

Draft Solid Waste Reduction Policy Statement 

The City has created a draft policy on reducing waste, and the Solid Waste Committee is asking for public feedback before recommending the policy to the City Council for approval. This draft policy explains the City’s role in solid waste services, sets priorities for the City’s efforts, and includes goals and ways to measure progress in reducing waste over time.

Waste generation has been increasing for many years. Landfill space is limited, and new landfills are located farther away. This increases both costs and transportation emissions. Reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills can lower emissions and help reduce waste management costs.

We want to hear your thoughts on this draft policy. Your comments and suggestions will help the Solid Waste Committee understand what is important to the community.
