The City of Salem designed improvements to the McGilchrist Corridor, specifically McGilchrist Street SE between 12th and 25th Streets. Improvements include; addition of strategically placed turn lanes, signal lights, stormwater management, sidewalks, cycle track, lighting, and a realignment of 22nd Street SE.Due to funding limitations, the project has been divided into phases in order to allow for construction to begin sooner. Phase 1 will include the realignment of 22nd Street and street improvements between 19th Street SE and Ford Street SE along McGilchrist Street SE.
The project will be going out to bid this Spring, with the goal of Phase 1 construction beginning in Summer 2023.
Project design was funded with urban renewal dollars. Grant funds have been awarded to the projects contributing to construction costs of Phase 1. City staff are continuing to work toward the acquisition of additional grant funds for construction of future phases of the full McGilchrist Street Improvement Project.
